This was really sad for me! Last week I went to CD/Game Exchange at 2475 18th Street NW to look for a cheap DVD. No luck. The place was emptied out and a small for rent sign was in the front window. It had closed without notice. Up in Tenleytown, the same story. The Tenley store (across from Best Buy on Wisconsin Ave) at least had a handwritten sign in the front window. It said something to the effect of "Sorry dear customers, but we just couldn't make it work...Visit our other stores...." There are two other CD/Game Exchange locations still operating in suburban Maryland. Probably too far for me to make regular trips though.
Total bummer. They always had $4/5/6 DVDs and even cheaper CDs. Most weeks you could find a newish DVD release that was used, but in mint condition. I'd estimate that half of my DVD collection is from CD/Game and many of my CDs as well. They also bought used video games, DVDs, CDs, electronic equipment an even VHS tapes. CD/Game Exchange still maintains an online presence with Amazon and eBay stores selling new and used merchandise. Apparently another victim of the economy, sadly. I reviewed CD/Game Exchange last year here.
