Multi Space Meters for Mount Pleasant

Looks like the Mount Pleasant parking scene is going the way of Adams Morgan and Penn Quarter. Solar powered multi space meters are being installed all along the commercial strip. The green parking posts will replace the old meters, which allowed for only one car per meter. The new multi space meters allow as many cars hat can fill a block's worth of curb space. They accept coins (no pennies) and credit/debit cards. Take the receipt you get after payment and place it in the front window, left side of your dashboard. No word if the double parkers will make use of the extra spaces.

The problem with these meters is that they require a back and forth. Get out of your car, walk to the machine, pay. Then, take the receipt you get after payment back to your car, and place it in the front window...

I got 3 kids. Adding this back and forth of perhaps a couple hundred feet is a hassle that old skool meters didn't require.

Plus, these meters absolutely baffle folks downtown the first few times they use them. I hope they have a way to introduce the meters to our immigrant communities...

Another stupid "smart" idea.

I went to Caliyogurt tonight. These are my thoughts.

It's a super cool bright clean looking place. That's good. Good decor and all that. They sell tea and yogurt, interesting combo.

However, they don't sell fat yogurt, it's all nonfat. Usually fat yogurt tastes muuuch better, and is oftentimes better for you, eaten in moderation. Would have liked the choice.

But, the good news is that the nonfat yogurt, the only type they sell, is really delicious. I would like to see the ingredients, maybe if I log on to their web site...The person behind the counter said there's 7 grams of sugar in it. Anyway, good nonfat yogurt. As someone who's fanatical about natural food, I'm distrustful of nonfat, and won't eat there as much because of that.

Next, they sell a bunch of teas in PLASTIC (ee gads!) containers. When I asked if they were recyclable, she said no. There might have been a language barrier there, but anyway, THAT IS NOT GOOD NEWS FOR A NEW BUSINESS!!! And of course I said so.

Why does young and hip not include GREEEN??

Anyway, this is the type of place meant to appeal to young and hip people, like bloggers and so forth, but on a cool global warming winter night, there were not a whole bunch of people in there, and I just get that feeling that Caliyogurt won't be around next year. I hope I'm wrong. I hope they are - stronger, greener, etc...but I just get that feeling.

Sorry, I know you'd written about them w hile back, but I decided to piggy back on this blog entry...
