Why National Harbor Will Never Challenge DC for Anything

All that fuss over National Harbor and Gaylord Hotel stealing heaps of business from DC is over. They have been securing some large conventions, but after three visits, count me as unimpressed. Among some other reasons that the project won't live up to the hype:

1. Rat problems. Well, DC has those, too.
2. Water problems. Uh, we definitely have those.
3. Stole the Awakening sculpture. They "purchased" it, I guess.
4. Lured the Children's Museum. Probably a good choice for the Museum.
5. Run ads like this: NO EXCUSE. What, this was the only stock photo for free wifi? Dude is pumped.

Is this all you got? I don't buy it. Your reasons are a bit weak. Nat Harbor is a pretty fantastic place if you ask me.

I went to the National Harbor for the first time last weekend. One thing they do have is a ridiculously awesome dueling piano bar. However, it was a total pain to get to and is creepy in that new construction/fake town kind of way.

Yeah, I have to say, those reasons don't really support the hypothesis. The main reason is that it's hard to get to with no public transit. I've heard it's a pretty frickin cool place.

That said, it won't "beat" the downtown convention center, which is still getting gobs of huge conventions and conferences. Once the Convention Center Marriott is in, it's game over. I think the National Harbor is good for the region and PG County though.
