Casually strolling through Adams Morgan still isn't all that easy or enjoyable. The construction continues. But the scene is looking up. A little street resurfacing here, some sidewalk realignment there... and in a scant couple of months, that casual stroll will be a lot more appealing.
Anyway, while shopping record store day (shout out to Smash, Joint Custody, Crooked Beat & Red Onion) I saw that Sakuramen Ramen Bar had new signage up. The location is quite familiar to me, 2441 18th Street NW #2. I had been inside this basement space many times as a customer of Tattoo Paradise. They've since moved across the street to 2444 18th St NW.
Sakuramen already has a website, an active Twitter feed and Facebook page (with more photos). They plan to open in less than three weeks, on May 10. Obviously ramen is the main event here, but also look for "other awesome asian fusion creations." And it appears they will be vegetarian friendly as well, always a plus in my book.
A win-win for Adams Morgan. A restaurant poised to open just in time to take advantage of the new streetscape as well as offer a quality food experience that doesn't necessarily involve pizza. Good luck Sakuramen.
