Mount Pleasant Library Will Reopen September 12

After more than two years of closure, renovation and additions, the Mount Pleasant Branch Library will reopen on Wednesday September 12, 2012. The library, at 3160 16th Street, opened in 1925 and was the final "Carnegie Library" built in the District. DC Public Library system closed the location in April of 2010 in order to add an entire new wing in the rear of the structure as well as renovate other spaces in the interior.

In the meantime an interim library opened at 3162 Mount Pleasant St NW. It will close on August 18. So, we will be without a library for about three weeks. Residents can visit the next closest library, in Shaw, during that time.

We also learned last week that the 3162 Mount Pleasant St NW will become Beau Thai restaurant after the interim library closes. Great, great news.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held for the reopening at 11:00AM on September 12. And later that wee, on Saturday the 15th, the grand opening celebration will occur. Details to follow.
