Citibank is closing its Columbia Road location this spring. The bank at 1749 1/2 Columbia Road NW will close on March 27, 2009. The two closest remaining Citibank locations are at 3241 14th Street NW (Park Triangle building) and 1225 Connecticut Ave NW.Adams Morgan still has its fair share of banks with PNC, BB&T, BanComercio, Suntrust, Bank of America and Wachovia each within two blocks of 18th and Columbia.

My hunch is that the real estate company that owns the set of storefronts (including Citi and Foot Locker) is going to lease the adjacent space to Safeway for expansion... just an educated hunch though
now that's an idea. maybe trying to compete with the new giant and harris teeter.
There's definitely something in the works.

I had heard that safeway owned that strip of store fronts and was going to redo their store and expand into them. which would be awesome cause living in mount pleasant I would go there over walking to teeter or columbia heights. As it is now its losing my business because its aweful. I walk the extra blocks to teeters or over to columbia heights everytime. and im sure im not the only one. safeway really dropped the ball here and is losing a lot of business daily. should have renovated years ago
i haven't shopped at tis safeway for a long time. they'd probably have to close shop to do it, but i could imagine a scenario where they'd renovate the whole place, and enlarge it to match the new safeways in mt vernon sq and some parts of virginia.
well, the bank is closed, but i haven't heard anything else about what might take it's place.
It's official. The whole property is now closed/closing. Noticed this weekend that Popeye's chicken closed it's doors. Beauty Island is open until the 20th (according to them) but Citi is now closed and Popeye's has followed suit.
I have no idea what the plan is for this location. If someone knows something, please post it.
Thanks.
