Longchamp is the latest retail store to set up camp at the City Center development downtown. The Paris-based store is known for its luxury handbags, shoes, accessories, and other high end fashion items. It joins luggage retailer Tumi and upscale shoe company Allen Edmonds as the only stores currently with a physical presence at City Center. Longchamp signage was recently added to the first floor of the Apartments at City Center building, near the corner of 10th and I (Eye) NW. The District will join several other U.S. cities with stand-alone Longchamp boutiques, including Vegas, the LA area, San Fran, Chicago, New York, Miami, Phila, and Boston.
I have to say, the current retailers at City Center do absolutely nothing for me. No excitement, no mystery. Shoes. Handbags. Luggage. I get that there is a market for those things, and I'm not saying they need to sign a Hot Topic or Spencer's, but I'd love some fun/exciting/trendy retailers. Some eye candy or window shopping material, at the least.

It is likely that the remaining retail spots will be filled by other, similar luxury brands. On the apparel front, they will join a wide variety of other clothing & accessory stores already open downtown. Within five blocks of City Center are: Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, H&M, Zara, Loft, Jos. A Bank, Banana Republic, TJ Maxx, Anthropologie, J Crew, Anne Taylor, Coup de Foudre, Guess, Dress Barn, Macy's, Peruvian Connection, Lou Lou, Andrew's Ties, and more. Whatever the final makeup of City Center retail offerings, they at least look to bring businesses to downtown that only currently exist elsewhere in the region or further afield.
