Sports Zone slated for 675 H St NW; next to Panera Bread |
It has been over one year since I got excited about YO! Sushi opening a restaurant at 675 H Street NW in Penn Quarter. Alas, it was not to be. The fast casual sushi restaurant never opened or even built out. The storefront is the last empty retail space in the 801 7th St development, which also includes a new-format Walgreens, Panera Bread, and offices for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers.
Sports Zone is a life-style and fashion store, mostly known for SHOES. Before I lived in DC, I'd make trips to Georgetown to shop at the M Street store. At the time they stocked shoes that just weren't available in Richmond, where I lived. That was kind of pre-internet and pre every store having every cool new shoe. It's different now, but they still seem to stay ahead of the curve.
There are now over 30 stores in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, including a location near Mount Pleasant, at DCUSA. The "Sports Zone Elite" brand accounts for 14 of those stores. The company recently signed a lease with Douglas Development for a Sports Zone Elite in the almost 1,800 square foot space. They will open this Spring.
