What Happened Over the Holidays

I guess the holidays are over.
We have a new Mayor and CouncilMuriel Bowser is now the Mayor of the District of Columbia. And after the weirdest 9-month pre-lame duck period (the epic amount of between the primary and general election), Brianne Nadeau took over as DC Council member representing Mount Pleasant and the rest of Ward 1. She replaced long time Ward 1 Council member Jim Graham.

BUL Opens: From the owners of Sakuramem, BUL offers a new and needed take on Korean cuisine in the District. It opened last week in Adams Morgan at 2431 18th Street NW. Looks veg friendly. Excited to try a few of the limited vegan dishes.
BUL's initial menu. Subject to change. Online menu.

Heller's Closes: The venerable Mount Pleasant Bakery which survived multiple owners over nearly 90 years finally closed. The space at 3221 Mount Pleasant St NW is already empty. Take this poll and tell me what you think should replace the bakery! So far the winner is "bakery."

Other Closures: Smashburger (1739 Connecticut Ave NW). Can't say I ever visited, but I knew people who liked this place. It's gone now, sorry guys.

Treeeeeees: The official/unofficial date to take down trees, lights, and other holiday accouterments is Feb 6. Maybe. I think my dad made that date up, but it sounds right, right? Anyway, if you want to get rid of your holiday tree before that, the city has a holiday tree collection program. This is for single family homes and small multifamily buildings. The rules are similar to regular trash collection, i.e., if your building has 4+ units, your private trash disposal service will have to take care of this. FYI - the city will still take your tree after the Jan 10th deadline, but it will head to the trash heap instead of being recycled.
