I love this daguerreotype of the Patent Office Building. The old Patent Office now houses the National Portrait Gallery. The view is likely from the north side of the Post Office Building, which now houses Hotel Monaco. The photographer is John Plumbe, and this image was taken in 1846 (!!!).
