Radius Pizza Back?

This is welcome news: according to the Washington City Paper, Mount Pleasant's own Radius Pizza could open as soon as next week. The only sit down pizzeria in the neighborhood has been closed since abruptly ceasing operations on June 21 of this year. I look forward to this happening whether next week, the week after, or next month. The location is centrally located on the commercial strip, at 3155 Mt Pleasant St NW.

Who can say no to a good pizza and a glass of their favorite adult beverage? No one. Everyone loves a good pie. And it looks like they'll have vegan options, which is just fantastic. Very, very good news and perhaps I'll see you there, next week even! Have a great weekend.

No More Radius Pizza

UPDATE: Still closed; but may reopen under new ownership.

Radius Pizza, Mount Pleasant's only sit down pizzeria, closed on June 21 and never reopened. This, despite a voicemail greeting explaining that they were on a short "vacation." The recorded message noted that the restaurant would reopen on July 2. That didn't happen. The phone? Disconnected. Twitter, Facebook? Gone. No more pizza. The Radius Pizza space --3155 Mt Pleasant St NW-- was previously occupied by the the relatively short-lived Bella Roma Italian restaurant and before that, the People Garden health food store. For those of you still craving the pie, Angelico la Pizzeria is still open at 3205 Mount Pleasant St NW.

It's still not clear to me what happened with Radius. Did the staff suspect this before hand? What are the owner's plans? Are they even still around? How will you repurpose all of your Radius refrigerator magnets? I don't know. I did enjoy the homey atmosphere, decent prices, mostly likable staff and a good ole' tomato pie. It was always a steady, reliable option for a meal with out of town guests or sitting at the bar to watch American Idol or just having a beer without being bothered. They will be missed!

As for what's next: I would like to see another restaurant there. Not necessarily a pizzeria, but definitely a restaurant. You have to wonder if the owners of Tonic are eyeing the space, after expanding to Foggy Botton, then upstairs above the original Tonic and later opening "Last Exit" below Radius. Time will tell. If I get any updates I'll pass them along. Send any tips to the42bus@gmail.com or The42BusDC on Twitter.
