Hear Mount Pleasant is an organized group working within the neighborhood (with residents, businesses and the DC government) to promote the live arts, music and other cultural aspects of life in Mt. Pleasant. They've organized several events in the neighborhood including just this past Sunday (July 15, 2007) in Lamont Park. [According to performers, the event was a preview for a larger more comprehensive set of performances taking place at the GALA Theater, in nearby Columbia Heights. I'll post more information about that event when it becomes available.]
There have been a couple of articles on the issue of voluntary agreements in general and music in Mt. Pleasant establishments in particular. Here's one from the Washington Post and the official definition of voluntary agreements from the DC government. And finally, DC North had a neat article on a specific aspect of the neighborhood's musical heritage, the mariachis of Mt. Pleasant Street.
