Former cell phone store slated to become Suns Cinema |
The Suns Cinema project seems to be moving forward in Mount Pleasant. Plans for a small, alternative/independent/classics film venue have been coming together over the past few months. The organizers chose 3107 Mount Pleasant St NW as the space for the theater. Suns completed a successful $16,000 Kickstarter campaign in March.
Recent DCRA permits indicate a current load of just 15 people, but that jumps to 41 if required alterations are made. I'm guessing that number will rise as the build-out continues.

Suns is also seeking an alcohol licence in order to operate a bar inside the theater. The ABRA alcohol licence request (page 12) lists an occupancy load of 99 people, including 42 in seats, and 10 in a summer garden. I'm assuming the summer garden seating means the small patio facing Mount Pleasant Street NW. Requested hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday 8am – 12am & Friday + Saturday 8am – 2am.
If all goes well, we'll have a great new addition to Mount Pleasant sooner than later!
