Beer Tasting and Fundraiser at Beau Thai

A local restaurant is helping out a local non-profit and the end result is that you get to drink great beer. Beau Thai at 3162 Mount Pleasant Street NW is extending a helping hand to Mount Pleasant Main Street. Next week on November 21, Beau Thai's happy hour will benefit MPMS. If you are not familiar with Mount Pleasant Main Street, they host neighborhood events (like the popular movie nights) and organize other initiatives that foster community development or otherwise better the physical and economic state of Mount Pleasant. So, pretty much any idea that makes the neighborhood a better place to live, they've considered working on it.

From the organizers:

Beau Thai Mount Pleasant is hosting a happy hour and fundraiser with Mount Pleasant Main Street on Thursday, Nov 21 from 5 to 7. Come join us for drink specials, flights of local beer and Pleasant Punch. (Facebook Event Page)

Mount Pleasant Main Street Wins DDOT Grant

Nearly a quarter of a million dollars is coming to the neighborhood for streetscape improvements in Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant Main Street has secured $240,000 from DDOT in the form of a Transportation Enhancement Grant. DDOT had about $2.0 million total dollars to distribute.

The award will be used for several aesthetic and safety improvements including: improved lighting in Lamont Park (and on Mt P Street in general), new park landscaping and seating in the park, and bicycle and pedestrian safety features on Mount Pleasant Street. The time line and details of the proposed changes still have to be determined. MPMS will work with the ANC early next year to gauge public input and start the process now that the monies are secure. Mount Pleasant Movie in the Park and Sidewalk Sale

Mount Pleasant Movies in the Park returns this Saturday. Mount Pleasant Main Street will screen the recent indie flick King Corn. It's a documentary about two fellows who literally grow a plot of corn and track the plant's journey through food-dom right up until human consumption.

Can a film about one of the most ubiquitous American plant foods be interesting? Most of my friends say so. And I'm inclined to agree. The film touches on other issues like the federal farm bill, genetically modified foods, nutrition and agribusiness. As they say, you'll never think of corn the same again.

But that's not all! Also happening before the movie starts: live music in the park and an urban gardening demo by the Neighborhood Farm Initiative. Businesses along Mount Pleasant Street will also hold sidewalk sales throughout the day on Saturday.

Where: Lamont Park (Lamont and Mount Pleasant Sts NW)
When: This Saturday September 26th. 6:00pm.
Who: Presented by Mount Pleasant Main Street

Support Mount Pleasant Main Street, Haydees

Do double duty on Tuesday night. Come out to support a local business and a non profit working to better the neighborhood. Mount Pleasant Main Street is holding a fundraiser, and the host is local restaurant Haydee's. On Tuesday from 6-11pm, have a meal (or two!) at Haydee's and they'll donate a percentage of the night's revenue to Mount Pleasant Main Street. Haydee's serves Mexican and Salvadorian foods, stiff margaritas and occasionally live music. Mount Pleasant Main Street is involved in numerous projects, including promoting the neighborhood. You may have seen some of their recent accomplishments, the neighborhood street light banners, and movies in Lamont Park.

Haydee's is located at 3102 Mt Pleasant Street NW, at Irving.
