2008 Year in Review: Part Three

Development. Ugh. A little of a down year locally, with some painful vacancies on Mt Pleasant Street. The economy started to take a toll on DC. However, there were some highlights and a few silver linings.

A local bodega closed, but a major supermarket chained opened in Adams Morgan. Who would have pictured a high end shoe boutique on Park Road? Locally owned to boot. And only two blocks away from the boutique, the promise of a natural foods grocer at DCUSA. A friendly used CD store closed shop, but a big box electronics retailer made room for itself in Columbia Heights. Here are a few development and retail related stories from this year.
