Lezo's Taqueria Opens in Mount Pleasant

Lezo's Taqueria opened on Saturday in Mount Pleasant, replacing Burritos Fast at 3213 Mount Pleasant St NW. In short, Lezo's is legit! The menu isn't final, but is similar to what you might see at Taqueria Habanero on 14th St. Dare I say... Lezo's may be better.

I ordered the nopales and calabacitas tacos. Dang y'all. They were good. Lezo's offered six or seven different salsas, limes, and guacamole to dress your own tacos. They serve refrigerated soft drinks and also offer some off-menu desserts. The menu should be made final in a few weeks and there's a good chance they will add a few other vegan taco options, too. As much as I looooooved Burritos Fast (aka Tex Mex Burrito), I'm really excited about Lezo's Taqueria.

For now, the restaurant is open daily from 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM, although operating hours are subject to change as they settle in. Good luck to the owners [by the way, a local family and very nice]!

Burritos Fast is Now Tex Mex Burrito?

Perplexed by this change. During Fiesta DC, I stopped by a fairly busy Burritos Fast for what ended up being my dinner. I picked up what I thought was a menu from a nearby competitor, "Tex Mex Burrito." But, then I opened it and it had pretty much the same selection. Then I looked on the back page and sure enough, the address of Tex Mex Burrito was listed as 3213 Mount Pleasant Street NW, the same as Burrito Fast.

They're changing the name. Not sure why. The new name is written on the front window. I'm partial to Burritos Fast, but hey, maybe Tex Mex Burrito is more exciting sounding.

The website listed on the new menu wasn't active yet and it also advertised for catering and delivery, which I'm pretty sure they didn't offer before this name change? New territory for Burritos Fast. The veggie burrito I ordered was huge and tasted the same as always, so I'll be back.

Burritos Fast, CVS, Maoz

Burritos Fast
If you haven't seen, Tikal Burritos Fast is back from the dead! With some fresh new table clothes and a missing counter in the front window, a restaurant nearly 100% identical to the one which closed. I have not set foot inside the new place. Have you? Anyone have anything to report? I will try to get over there for a burrito at some point soon. As you may or may not know, I was a fan of the old place if only for the fact that it was close and you got a lot of food for the money.

CVS
The new CVS in Adams Morgan is open. The pharmacy-food-convenience store moved across the street this month, abandoning the cramped and awkward store at 1700 Columbia Rd NW. The new store is adjacent to the newly renovated Safeway at 1747 Columbia Rd NW. It is much, much larger but looks a lot less quirky than the older location with new precast brick and concrete panel sections on the face.

Maoz Vegetarian
I was really excited about the opening on Maoz Veg in Dupont. It finally opened and I've been there several times since. A few lunch visits and lots of after work and a late night or two. In my opinion, the product has gotten better over the weeks. I've always been happy with my meal, but they haven't always been consistently good. The fries have been, but the falafel was sometimes great, and sometimes OK. Have you had similar experiences? Still glad its here and I'll probably go again soon. Maybe today!

Tikal Burritos Fast No More

This closure was telegraphed for a while, but it's still a bummer, man. Months after posting 'business for sale' signs in the windows, Tikal Burritos Fast is now actually closed. A Mount Pleasant Street (3213 Mt P St NW) resident or over 5 years, the restaurant was simple and delicious. No wait staff, no alcohol, no bar, no dance floor; it was a straight up burrito joint with a limited and focused menu. I ordered a black bean burrito w/no cheese 99.9% of the time. The other .1% of the time I added spinach.

There may be exciting new plans for this space. More news to come after I do some digging around. Suffice to say it won't become another burrito place, but the new incarnation could be good news for the commercial strip. Farewell Tikal, farewell.
